This chapter focuses on the definition of legal analoy (qiyās) in Averroes’ juridical thought. It first situates his position concerning the epistemic nature of this mental operation within the borader legal debate of his time, and than shows the Farabian origin of his restrictive conception of legal analogy, strictly identified with the Aristotelian rhetorical exemplum.
